ABOUT OUREA EVENTS

We’re the small (10-person) permanent staff who organise the UK’s most challenging off-road running events, including the Dragon’s Back Race®, Cape Wrath Ultra®, Salomon Skyline Scotland®, SCARPA Great Lakeland 3Day™, SILVA Northern Traverse™ and Kendal Mountain Festival Trail Run. We work year-round, primarily from a rural office near Kendal, and our passion is the outdoors.

JOB DETAILS

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who can lead the business's financial operations and management, which support our world-class events portfolio. We need someone with a meticulous approach to their work and a natural attention to detail to master a complex financial brief.  The Finance Manager role covers many responsibilities, working closely with each part of the organisation and developing operational knowledge to help support decision-making and budget control. This holistic role is suited to someone with strong business partnering skills and experience, enabling us to tie together event operations with finance.

Our ideal candidate will work from the Kendal office with ad hoc working from home possible. Additional and adjusted responsibilities to those listed should be expected in keeping with an ever-evolving small business. The successful candidate would also be entitled to the company pension scheme, TOIL for any days worked on events, and the company bonus scheme. There is a generous annual leave allowance.

Additionally, our ideal candidate would join us at events as an integrated member of the core Ourea Events team.

An affinity with the outdoors and running would be an advantage for a candidate.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Day-to-Day Office Role: Finance

Our Finance Manager is the lead person in the business, managing and administrating all the financial operations. This role includes:

  • Financial reporting for monthly management meetings. 

  • Day-to-day bookkeeping. 

  • Day-to-day budget management and supporting budget line holders to ensure budgets are kept up to date.  

  • Liaison with external accountants and merchant banks.

  • Managing cashflow and producing relevant projections.  

  • Preparation of VAT returns and filing under MTD. 

  • Calculation of TOMS (Tour Operators Margin Scheme). 

  • Processing of monthly payroll. 

  • Preparation of monthly and annual accounts including all control account reconciliations. 

  • Generating weekly entry reports and event revenue projections. 

Day-to-Day Office Role: Business Operations

  • Responsible for managing the certain supplier relationships, such as leasing agreements. 

  • Producing the annual carbon accounts in conjunction with external carbon accountants. 

  • Managing the 1% for the Planet administration and annual donations. 

  • Oversight of website sales, stock control, product procurement and associated financial reporting. 

Events (optional but desirable) 

Working as an Event Operations Manager at each event as an integral part of the Ourea Events team. This role includes:

  • Info Point lead, responsible for front-of-house participant interaction, including supporting participants at Information Point and event shop with a team of volunteers 

  • Managing transport logistics for participants and associated event team.

  • And many other interesting and varied jobs you could expect at an event.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory

  • AAT qualified or equivalent. 

  • Minimum of three years of accounting experience.

  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Desirable

We recognise that no one candidate is likely to have all the desirable experience outlined below, and therefore, we’ll take an open-minded view about the skills and experience of all candidates and how they relate to this role.

  • Fully CCAB qualified (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA).

  • Experience of using QuickBooks online preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams etc.).

  • Proficiency with Apple computers and operating systems.

  • Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to drive various event vehicles.

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather and camping at events.
